Cultural Diversity
Sahnish:
Some of my classmates are primarily
Nueta in there portion of culture. From them I learn the beginning stories from
the Nueta, which are similar to my cultural background of the Navajo. The way
the world began and how people came up from the ground.
Hidatsa: My cultural
classes such as History of the TAT and Hidatsa class were taught by Delvin
Driver Sr and he is fluent in his language of Hidatsa. I learn parts of the
language and background stories from this culture. In this class I learned that
we aren’t looking back in history but keeping it alive with traditions and how
clanship works throughout the community. I say this because how conduct
ourselves in front of certain people and customs that are still carried out
today.
Nueta:
In History of the TAT I learned, this culture is almost diminished on this
reservation and many are trying to save it. I understood that there are almost
two different languages one for female and another for male. These customs are
still being used today.
Global:
In many of my classes we discussed how different cultures use the land and how it
varies from culture to culture. In our Environmental Science class we studied
how the world uses the land in as a whole.
Cultural
diversity had a huge impact on me since I’m in an area that isn’t my original
area. The way we carry ourselves and the decipline we put into our school work.
Being able to travel to AISES or AIHEC conferences we are representing this
college and the culture behind to come together and how others see us.
